4.4. Passage monitoring
The Pilot will expect the OOW to maintain a full awareness of the position and
movement of the ship, as well as of the surrounding traffic. Any concerns must be
directed to the Pilot.
The Pilot will continuously maintain an overview of the situation, to address any
potentially dangerous situations. Maintaining a solid situational awareness, enables
the Pilot to avoid occurrence of dangerous situations by minimal deviations from
the agreed passage plan.
4.5. External communication
During the pilotage, the Pilot will take care of all external communication. If the
Pilot is communicating in any other language than the agreed working language,
any relevant information will be translated to the bridge team to ensure full knowledge
of the situation among the bridge team.
